How Much Screen Time is too much?
Have you ever wondered how much screen time your child should be getting? Are they getting too much? What could happen if your child gets too much screen time? Hopefully we can answer a few of your screen time questions for your children.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics(AAP) it is recommended that children under the age of 2 should not be getting any screen time. The recommendation for children aged 2-12 should only get 1 hour of screen time each day and teens to adults should get 2 hours a day of screen time. While we all have moved more towards online schooling, virtual meetings, and working on a computer more frequently, that is why AAP recommends less screen time while children are at home. Frequent screen time for children, no matter the age, could have the potential to not want to be active, be outside with friends, or use and strengthen their social skills and imaginative play.
There could be some negative effects of too much screen time. According to the AAP, too much screen time could lead to obesity, irregular sleep, behavior problems, delays in language and social skills, attention problems, impaired academic performance, violence and less time to play.
